Excerpts

i)

I’m turning 40 in a matter of days.

It isn’t barreling towards me like a freight train, but it is a moment of life that I’m rather surprised caught up with me.

It seems important, and so very grown.

It’s a fine time for a mid-life crisis, 40 is.

I’m told people often make another pivot in their 40s: a third career change; a settling down, or in; a decision about what the next chapter of their lives will reflect.

I feel this in my bones, like the pull to make a fresh start with a new year.

A new decade and a mild case of ennui will do that to a person.

ii)

I’m so afraid

When did I become so afraid to be seen?

iii)

How do you love someone when they’re failing, including yourself?
